Posting Delays

Hey All,

I just want to say that I am sorry for any posting delays you all might experience. I promise that we will be caught up soon. God damn is it hard to try to write four bar reviews at 2AM after a night of drinking.

I think I need to quit my job, just so I have some time to write these reviews. Oh right, I do write all of my reviews at my job. That makes things easier.

Images

Hey All,

So I am going to be adding some images to the various postings as I pull them off of my camera, scan them, etc ... So far I have two examples of them, and I was curious if you all out there had any opinion on whether you thought they were too big, to small, etc ... Do you prefer a bigger image in pop or is a simple embedded image OK?

Here are the examples:

The Liquid Lounge
The Rimrock Steak House
The Lake City Bar and Grill

So let me know what you think.

A Moment of Silence

I would like us all to take a small moment of silence to mourn the passing of a bar 570BARS has visited. I will take this moment to say a few kind words about Rain Dancer for it is no more.

I must admit that I did not know Rain Dancer well. I saw one show there and met two cute college women who never emailed, even after I gave them a ride to pick up their ID. I had a decent drink and I liked the performance space.

Rain Dancer, I wish I could say that you will be missed, but really, you won't, or at least not by me.

I give you this special place in our history though, as you are the first bar to have died while under our tender care.

Now if only I could inflict your fate on a few key others, I might be happy.

One For Omar

Sadly, I have discovered the fate of Porfidio.

While the crop was greatly decreased, this didn't kill that fine, fine tequila. Rather, it disappeared from the USA because of this.

This is taken from the excellent site for Tequila Aficionado Magazine. Check it our for all your tequila needs and news.

So, Omar and all other Porfidio fans, there will be no Porfidio until we get a change in Mexican government policy. Which just sucks.

Back from Paris ... Back to Work

Hey All,

I am back from Paris and I am anxious to get back to work. I will be adding a bunch of pictures and photos to the site. In addition, we will begin hitting more bars this afternoon.

Please keep tuning in as we will be getting back into the full swing of things.

Editor Wanted

Hi All,

So I have been told that my entries have too many spelling and grammar errors. For this I do apologize. I simply do not have the time to go back and double check them all before I post them. As such I am putting out a call for an editor, to go back through my entries (primarily) and Jason's entries as well (he is guilty too, even if far less than I.)

All I am asking for is someone to go through and edit the entries for spelling and grammar. I figure the whole process will take about 1 to 4 minutes per entry (depending on length and number of errors.)

What can we give you for this? Well at the moment, not a whole lot. We can give mad props, and a mention of the website. We may even give posting rights, but that would depend on who the taker was.

If you are interested, drop me a line at Brandon@570bars.com

The Buzz

On the Morning of September 6th 2002 at 8:30 AM Jason and I did a phone interview with Ron & Don in the Morning on 100.7 the Buzz. I was nervous enough about this interview that I slept on Jason’s couch rather than trying to drive over to his house and be ready for 8:00 (our original start time.)

I printed out a number of useful items (almost none of which we needed.) These were things like our top bars list, our complete bar list, and a list of bars with hot women (cause I knew they were going to ask about it.)

We got a call at a little before 8:00 from Jennifer, the Producer, to tell us that they were running a little late and we wouldn’t be on until 8:30. We did get a quick plug at 8:00 to let us and everyone listening for us that we would be coming up. That 30 minutes took forever. It was truly thrilling to hear the plug. I feel like such an amateur.

The interview itself went well. There was one particular moment that made me very very unhappy, but I am not going to talk about it, until we have a copy of it to put up on the website. Lets just say that the people who heard it said it was good radio, even if they did say the one thing that would truly piss me off. “MENDOZA!!!!”

Anyhow, the interview went well, Jennifer invited us back if something interesting happens to us later on. I assume she means that we get arrested, have lots of gratuitous sex, or end up partying with Rush Limbaugh (they are conservative talk radio you know.)

As of the writing of this piece (which is done on Sept 15th) we have not yet received a copy of the interview. We do have an audio tape which, if worst comes to worst we will pipe into the computer on MP3.

I am happy we did the interview, but Jason and I need to work on our interview skillz. He did most of the talking, but I think that is because I was nervous. That and I could hear him echoing in my ear and it was very annoying.

So I think we got about 150 to 200 website hits off of the radio show, but those are all Seattle hits which are more important than random internet hits for getting us sponsorships and random recognition.

My thanks to Jennifer and Ron & Don. I look forward to talking to them again and hope that we can be more interesting next time.

570 Bars listed at Yahoo Editor's Pick

Hi All,

Yesterday I was informed by one of our readers (Thanks Tim!) that 570 Bars had been selected as Yahoo's Website Pick of the Day. This is very exciting. I thought you all might be interested in this, as I know we were.

Here is a look at what the page looks like:

570YahooPicks.jpg

Here is another little link (as you can see we are very excited):

570YahooPicksList.jpg

Finally, here is the Yahoo Page indicated how many times that the Yahoo Pick has been emailed to someone. I want all of our readers to go out and spread the word!!! Email it from this page and push us to #1. We can beat out some stupid kitten site! Drinking is better than kittens, although drinking kittens might be entertaining:

And to the Yahoo Editor, I want to say thank you. Since we are not above bribery and favor, we would like to take you out for a beer, should ever be in Seattle.

More Dead Bars

It's been a while since we mentioned any dead bars, so now I'm going to. We've had three that went pretty much silently by, the first was the Poor Italian Cafe and Corner Bar (#131), which was no great loss. Not even, really, a small loss.

A couple months ago, we lost Avenue One (#137). This was a very nice bar indeed, with a staff that was friendly, and a good look, but apparently it just didn't work out. There was a touching message posted on the door telling people about it, and we're sorry to see them go.

The last one is a real blow, with Lush Life (#147) suffering a sad and divorce related demise. Although a new bar is expected to open in January, I don't know whether it will match the charm of the previous incarnation. Perhaps more importantly, I don't know whether it will retain the former liquor license, or whether we'll have to drink there again, in what would be, I think, a very weird experience. Like finding new people living in a friend's house that you had visited. Odd.

Still, only 5 total that we know of in 6 months is pretty good. A few more have died and/or been replaced before we visited them, but that's alright. We didn't know them, and we're not too sad about their loss.

19-18

In the ongoing battle of the sponsors, Bridgit has regained the lead, 19 bars to 18, with her three sponsorships of last night. How long can she keep the lead? How long until Wolf strikes back? Stay tuned to find out.

21-19

And Wolf retakes the local title, with a run of three Chinese bars in the International District. It's been almost 2 weeks with no changes in leaders, and as all our regular readers know, that's really unusual. Neither of them picked up a single bar in 10 days, almost unheard of especially when we picked up 18 bars in 7 days there.

But now Wolf is, for the moment, back on top. When will Bridgit strike back? But Clarkie's moving up kind of quick, too, so keep posted for the latest.

New Page Added: 570 Best and Worst

Hi All,

I am pleased to announce that while I have not been writing any bar reviews today, I have been working on a new web page.

It is the best and worst of the 570 bars quest. This is where you are going to find the wacky things that we liked and didn't like. It will get longer as we remember new categories.

Just to give you a taste. My favorite category is:
Best Place for Having Sex in the Bathroom goes to EVA.

Links are included to the reviews for easy reference (once the reviews have been written.)

I will try to be timely with my updates of this page, but well, you know.

21-18 (16?)

With Bridgit's dramatic withdrawl from the sponsorship race, we're left with a new pair of top local contenders, Wolf and Clarkie, currently sitting at 21 and 18 bars. Wolf's going strong, but Clarkie's been surging of late, claiming 11 of his bars in the last 2 weeks. A man who was once an also ran, now the number one contender? Possibly even the champion?

Only time will tell.

Farewell one last time to Bridgit, who goes out, with 19 bars, as a two time champion of the local circuit.

(I'm looking over the list, and I think I may be wrong, and there may only be 16 Clarkie bars. We'll see.)

I am Up to Date!!!!

Let It be known that for the first time in at least 6 months, I am all caught up. This may last for 5 hours or it may last for weeks (as I stay caught up) but for the moment, look upon my glory and bow before it.

I hope this makes up for the fact that I have been so far behind for so long.

I will do better until the next crisis that causes me to fall behind.

Both Brandon and me are now up to date. We're caught up entirely. The last bars were on Saturday, it's Monday, we're current.

Huzzah!

Wait until next week for us to fall behind once more. It won't take long.

Another one bites the dust

And there's another shocker in the sponsorship race. Clarkie, having reached the total of 21 bars, has suddenly withdrawn by process of moving to Texas with 12 hours notice. Thus, his total is frozen at that point, and it looks like Wolf is assured of the title of local winner, since his two fiercest competitors are both gone, Bridgit on October 25, Clarkie on November 29.

Stay tuned for possible further information about the Clarkie sponsorships.

570 Bars in Seattle Times Today

Hey All,

I thought you would all be interested to know that we are in the Seattle Times today. Two weeks ago we did an interview with Melanie McFarland, who writes the pop culture column Pop Fizz.

Here is the article that came out today.

I am happy to report that I am quite pleased with the article. I find her choice of quotes amusing and unfortunately, yes, I really do use the words, "hot and burning passion." In fact I seem to use it a lot lately, but mostly that is in regards to my dislike of Holiday Music.

Anyhow, I hope to see Melanie out with us again because she was a blast to hang out and talk with.

New Site Design is up

Hi All,

I am pleased to announce that the new site design is up on the front page. I hope that you all like it. Visit it here.

This site was put together by Arei Design Services. Please email us with any comments or problems that you are having. I am also happy to say that this site won't crash the Macintosh users out there who couldn't view our last home page.

We hope that you like the new site design. The load time is a little slower than the last page, but we feel it is worth it. Also, check out the new Press section to see what other people have said about us.

Well, back to posting.

A New Record

Good golly Miss Molly. Who would have thought, so late in the quest, that we had any new records to set? But stunningly enough, it's happened. In a single day (almost 8 hours) with a single sponsor (Jeff Ketchel) we've managed to drink at 9 bars in a run. Since there's only at most 100 left, that's about 10 percent of the total remaining.

So full of bloat, we were.

Anyway, many, many thanks to Jeff for picking up a whole lot of bars all in one run. This puts him at 19 bars, tied with Bridgit for the number 4 slot.

Another Dead Bar, and a Reincarnation

Well, we lost another one. Hiram's on the Lock has closed its doors, at least as far as being a restaurant/bar. It's now just an events space. Which is too bad, because it had a lovely view, and a pretty good looking bar, and it was the first bar Jeff ever sponsored us to.

And although I'm not certain, it also seems that Jack's Roadhouse might be gone. At least their sign was the last time I went by, and all the windows were curtained.

And, in reincarnation news, from the ashes of the missed Lush Life has arisen the long dreaded Marjorie. Dreaded because it's not Lush Life, and because it has a silly name. But we'll have a drink there and see what's what. It got a good mention in the Stranger this week, but who can say what that will mean?

So I think that's 7 dead bars out of our list, which isn't too bad, especially since 4 of them have been reborn.

A Stunning, and Sad, Change

Due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, Glen's having to drop out of the sponsorship game. We've still got a couple bars to pick up for his list, and we'll make sure they're good ones, but the whole thing came up so suddenly there was no way he could continue his long distance support.

I haven't said it enough, but I'm deeply grateful for all Glen has done for this quest, from the moral support to Brandon, to the very material support vis a vis the drinking, to the web site work he did for the new front page and interior layout stuff. And it sucks that he's having to stop even a part of that, and it sucks that it's for a shitty reason, rather than the far more sensible, "I'm just fucking sick of that Jason character."

So to Glen, I raise a glass and toast your brilliance.

By the way, El Gaucho's conditional status will be gone as soon as we get an update. You'd love it, so it should be fully yours.

Posted by Jason at 12:38 AM
The King is Dead, Long Live the King?

The current total for Glen is 36 sponsorships, with two more to come as far as I'm aware. So due to his unfortunate need to drop out of his much-appreciated sponsorship gig, he'll end up with a total of 38.

Wolf has 32. That's a gap of 6, out of not so many remaining bar.

Will we see a shift in the leadership of sponsors? I don't know, but I'm keeping my eyes open to see if Wolf makes the move.

Still More in the Dead Zone

Jak's Roadhouse is most definitely dead, and something else is being worked on there. Hopefully it won't open before we get done, but we don't have a lot of hope.

Angel's Thai Food on Broadway went away as well. They barely had a bar, but we drank, and they qualified. Not the biggest loss, but still, they're dead.

In back from the dead news, the replacement for Avenue One is far worse than the replacement for Lush Life. Marjorie so beats the Cha Bar's butt that there's no comparing the two. And thus Avenue One remains the most missed bar of the lot.

Bartender News

News about two of our favorite bartenders.

The good news first. Florence, our fav bartender from the Wildrose, just got picked by the Stranger and Stranger readers as one of Seattle's two Sexiest Bartenders. Which, I think, is just wonderful.

And the bad news, sort of. Bad for us, good for him. Ethan from Elliott's is soon to move back to California along with the lovely Andrea, and thus will no longer be tending bar at our beloved haunt. Thank god Joe will still be there, and Jesus and all the rest. As we learned with Melody, to our sorrow, losing your favorite bartender in a place can totally kill. Fortunately, there are multiple cool bartenders at Elliott's. Still, we're going to miss Ethan, but wish him the best in sunny California.

Even more deader than dead bars

It's unclear, but apparently the Flame has ceased to be the Flame, although it's still there. There's some new bar there, perhaps, but we'll have to investigate to be sure. I think it's a repeat of the .Ing experience, in which case we have to redrink there. Oh, well.

And in the paper this week, although it happened nearly two months ago, the Meridian Restaurant apparently closed about New Year's. Which was a few weeks after we were there, and after our reviews for it had appeared. I know some places are desperately waiting for our reviews and all that, but there's no reason to close if it doesn't go the way you want it to. Really...

Posted by Jason at 12:52 PM
March 07, 2003
Time is running out

We've got just two short weeks left. 27 bars, and two weeks. Or perhaps as many as 42 bars, but that requires a bit of explanation.

We once thought we'd just do as many bars as there were in the city, and that would just get to 570 by magic. But it didn't, because you all don't drink as much as you should. So we were going to be a bit short. But it's crunch time now, and we think we might just be able to make 570.

So if you sponsor, or if you want to sponsor, this is your chance. Your last chance, really. We have 15 days, total, remaining, and we need to hit a lot of bars. So there's a lot of drinking, and a lot of chances to get a mention. We're going out almost every night in the next couple of weeks, to try to hit the total number of bars, even hitting service bars (shudder) to make the secret number.

Really, then, we mean it when we say this is your last chance. March 21, and it's all over.

We're going to fall behind on this site

Due to the very great number of bars we're hitting in these, our last days, we'll be falling behind. Not because of not putting up bar reviews (although with Brandon, that's part of it, he has about a dozen ready but just hasn't posted them.) Rather, because the number we're hitting is going to exceed our ability to post. Since bar 500, just Monday before last (12 days ago) we've been to 35 bars. With about the same number more to come in the next 13 days.

So if you wonder why we're mentioning numbers we're nowhere near in our posts, it's because we're galloping ahead too quickly. Hopefully we'll be all caught up shortly after the end of the quest. Hopefully.

Top Sponsors

The sponsor's page is changing so fast that I feel like I should put a quick update here.

So our top ten sponsors are:

1. Wolf, with 39 bars (new number 1)
2. Glen, with 38 bars (we miss you man. if you're doing the surprise run in, it'll be the best moment ever.)
3. Jeff, with 25 bars (the master of the Valley)
(3.5 Clarkie, with 21 bars [dropped from contention, of course])
4. Bridgit, with 20 bars (feeling the need to pass Clarkie)
5. Mel, with 13 bars (queen of Wednesday)
6. Sean, with 9 bars (got his own nightlife, damn it)
7. Jim, with 8 bars (plugging for a top spot)
8. Melody, with 7 bars (most for a bartender)
9. Red, with 6 bars (coming on strong)
10(tie). Clara, Julie, and Brad, with 5 bars each. (Brad's got the fever)

And then there are our other sponsors, Gwen, the HOPS team, my mom, Meg, and Bridgit's Mom/the Russian Baroness (4 each), Alan, Annie, and Chris (3 each), Nick, Tony, Anthony, Vincent, Sandy, Phil, Star and LeeAnne (2 each), and the one timers, Bea (love you, dear), Kyle, Trevor, Farida, Kara, Ole, Mandee, Tavia, Danielle, Jesse, Melanie, Safety Monkey, Marla, Uncle Don, Tara, Billy, Julia at Firefly, Eric at the Lighthouse Grill, and Andy at Benihana.

To all of you, our thanks. I know many of you are still planning on picking up more bars, and I thank you in advance, as I'll thank you afterwards. This isn't the last list I'll post, and it's not the only reward you'll get. There's no way (both literally and more emotionally) that we could do this without you, and while we perhaps don't express it enough, we both feel so much gratitude to you that there isn't a good way to express it all.

If my numbers are off, the fault lies with my poor eyes, and I apologize. I think I did all my counting correctly, but there's a lot to count, so I may be off. If I missed you entirely, boy am I sorry. Permission to kick me is granted.

Okay, now back to our regularly scheduled accounts of drinking and so on.

More Sponsor List Madness

So the new top ten sponsors (really, top 12.5), and I'm not putting all the rest, with my apologies:

1. Wolf, 41 bars (+2)
2. Glen, 38 bars
3. Jeff, 30 bars (+5)
4. Bridgit, 22 bars (+2)
(4.5 Clarkie 21 bars)
5. Mel, 14 bars (+1)
6. Jim, 12 bars (+4)
7. Sean, 9 bars
8. Melody, 7 bars
9. Red, 6 bars
10. Clara, Julie, Brad, 5 bars each

And it's not going to change too much more, at this late date.

But in other sponsor news, Wolf is confirmed as the Last Bar, Bar 570, Sponsor. Unless there a run in, and then they get to arm wrestle for it.

Final Top 10 Sponsors

Okay, here's the final list, since there's only one bar to come and Wolf's picking it up. It's included in his total.

1. Wolf, with 42 bars
2. Glen, with 38 bars
3. Jeff, with 30 bars
4 Bridgit, with 22 bars
(4.5, Clarkie, with 21 bars)
5(tie). Mel and Jim, 14 bars each
(no 6, because two are tied at 5)
7. Sean, 9 bars
8. Melody, 7 bars
9(tie). Red and Clara, 6 each

Normally, that would eliminate number 10, but we've decided to leave them in, so--

10(tie). Julie, Brad, Annie, 5 each

For all those in this top ten, and for all the rest of the sponsors, thank you all so very much. There's no way we could have gotten through this without your very real support, and without the support of all our friends, readers and the variuos people who came out with us, time and again, just because we called and said, "We're going drinking, want to come?"

Thank you all.

Sad Dessert News

El Gaucho has made a terrible mistake, eliminating the Bailey's Chocolate Cake from their dessert menu. Perhaps this is a seasonal thing, but one way or another, it's gone. I discovered the sad fact the night of the last bar, when they offered some sort of Swiss Chocolate Mousse cake as an alternative, and I had to turn them down. What could touch perfection?

Hopefully, as with the sublime Key Lime at the DeLuxe, there will be a return to form. Only time will tell.

We got a nice little blurb in this week's Seattle Weekly in their Food section. It's a tiny little thing, but I think it's about the perfect little summation of all that we did in the last year. New Categories

There's a couple of new categories, Brandon's Reviews and Jason's Reviews. Eventually (like in a week or so) all of the bar reviews should be listed under these categories as well, so that it'll be possible to just read the reviews of one of us, one after another, without slogging through all the other stuff. Sadly, it's kind of a slow process to list things in multiple categories, so it might take a while.

The KISM Interview

It did happen, and it was pretty good. They were nice people, and they asked good questions. Brandon and I were much better at handling the fact that they never asked questions of either of us, but rather of both at once, and just whoever answers does so. We barely overlapped each other.

The strange part, really, was that they didn't seem to have done more than glance at the website, and really didn't seem to think that was at all important. The book that Brandon might eventually be writing about it was what they thought was the big deal of the quest. Until Brandon plugged the website, about half way through, there was only a mention that the article in the PI said we had a website, nothing else. Weird.

Good interview, though.

The Bar List is updated

Brandon put it on the front page, but who really notices that? I know I didn't. Anyway, the big Bar List section now lists all 570 bars, and has links to all our reviews. Note that, although the quest ended more than a month ago, Brandon is still at about bar 520 or 525, and has like 45 more reviews to post. This coming when he was at 500 when we finished. So he's only done 25 or so reviews in a month and change.

Good lord, what's wrong with him? Everyone write him mock-scathing notes at Brandon@570bars.com and make fun of him for being so slow. Nice fun, now, not the mean stuff.

Anyway, he did get the bar list updated, so now you can look at my reviews for everyplace and his reviews for just about everyplace and then go to the bar of your choice.

Posted by Jason at 12:00 AM
New Bars

Soon, we'll start to hit the new bars of the city. Not all of them, and not obsessively, a la the quest. But a few, here and there. There's at least four new bars that have opened since we stopped (did I mention this was a drinking town?) and we'll probably hit at least a couple of them in the first week of May. So look for my review of those before May 7, and look for Brandon's sometime in 2004. Maybe.

There should be a new category going up, too, called New Bars, or something like that, to seperate it from the old bars of the quest.

The New Bars

Now that we're done with the quest, and I'm done with not drinking for the month of April, we're going to start visiting new bars as they open. Not all bars, because we've done that, but as many as we can get to, and as many as seem interesting. A new Outback Steakhouse is opening, for instance, but we probably won't go there. There's no real point. But there's a new Thai place where Angel Thai used to be, and we certainly went there; a new fancy bar in the Waterfront Marriott; the new pier 66 bar from the El Gaucho people; and more still to come.

Will we drink at most places that open in the city? Probably. Will we post reviews of these places? Definitely. Will the reviews be a little different? For me, yes, a little. Now that it's not just about having a drink, I'll talk a little more about the places than I have been. The drink's still the thing, of course, but there's more to it.

Look for reviews of new bars to come, if the city keeps up its pace of opening bars, about one a week. There may be gaps followed by several reviews (as now, when we took a month off) but the number should be about constant.

Going to Paris

In a curious echo of this time last year, I'll be headed to Paris (and other parts of Europe, in my case) just like Brandon did last year. Which means that there won't be any new bars for a goodly while, but that Brandon will have caught up before I'm gone, or I have his consent to cut off the nostril of his choice.

22 days, 29 bar reviews and three new ones. You think he can make it?

I'm hoping for the left nostril, myself.

Bar List Complete

All of my bar reviews are up.

I have just updated the graphical Bar list so you can hop around at will.

There is a new Alphabetical Section so that you can more easily find your favorite bar.

There are also new categories called: Jason Reviews and Brandon Reviews. These are the reviews from just that person. Mine should be in order, but in the cases where Jason wrote his out of order, so to will they be out of order there (I believe.)

So with this post the bar quest is offically closed.

Well, not entirely I guess. I do have some new bar entries to post, but don't feel like it yet. There will be some favorites lists coming and some additional journal entries as I gear my mind up towards writing the book about this journey.

Glad you could all be here with us during long strange not nearly drunken enough journey.

And more bars perish

Just last week, Brandon and Lilly tried to head to Fernando's Hideaway, only to discover that it was no more. Empty and vacant. The bar is no more, and the magical tango nights are deceased.

Further, Sorry Charlie's is to be closing within a couple of weeks, so although it didn't really appeal to me, since I know it appealed to a lot of people, this is your last chance to go.

The end is near

As I write this, it's very early in the morning on the 19th of June. In just 11 short days, the Cloud Room will be no more.

I first went to the Cloud Room 5 years ago. I was at Care to Dance with my ex boyfriend David, and it was really lame, so we went across the street to the Camlin Hotel. David had just been to the Cloud Room a week or two earlier, and it was summer, and the weather was perfect, so he suggested we should go there, and we did.

Up in the shade, because it was afternoon, with the fountain playing and all the people around us wearing the same entry bracelets we were, I had a wonderful time. Not that the drinks were anything special, because they weren't. But it was a place above the city, a brilliant, wonderous patch of airy perfection, and it was warm and breezy and bright, and all was right with the world.

I went there every so often over the next few years, and then didn't go for a long while before I returned for a birthday bar crawl. And again, it was summer, the light was long and low, and it was wonderful.

And on the quest, we were there on an early spring day, with the weather cloudy and the air chill, but Brandon and I still went outside in the cool night air and sipped our drinks, standing because all the chairs were wet, and looking out over the Hill. And even if it wasn't perfect, for that time, all was right with the world.

Last month rumors swirled that the Cloud Room was closing, the Camlin was being bought, and they were true. Rumor had it they were gone by the middle of August, and that was false. I've already been there once since I heard they were closing, and I'm going again, at least once more, and maybe several times. I want all to be right with the world once or twice before the Cloud Room is gone.

For all of you who've ever been there, and been charmed by the place like everyone is, you should go back and raise a drink to your memories. It's not often you get a chance to say the final goodbye, but when it comes, it's precious. We all have that chance with the Cloud Room. Take it. You have until the night of the 30th, and then it's over forever.

The Reviews categories are done

Okay, I know I said they would be done months ago, but the way we had to do them was so very slow. But Brandon discovered a much quicker way, and now both the Brandon Reviews and Jason Reviews are complete, so that you can read through either of our review lists without interruption.

Gone Baby Gone

Jake's Bar and Grill, on 15th on Capitol Hill, is no more. However, there is a very similar looking place there, so maybe it just morphed identities.

Lemieux's on 1st Ave by Sodo Center is also apparently gone, although it is possible but extremely unlikely that it is merely getting a remodel. Since it looked like it hadn't had one since the Eisenhower years, that seems doubtful.

Dead Bars

Turns out a lot more bars have died. Of course.

Bar is gone, it appears, but it's died before and come back on several occasions. The Lizzard Lounge is gone according to one of our readers who posted about it, but I haven't been to West Seattle to verify. Mango's is gone, leaving a gap in East Capitol Hill that I'm sure will soon be filled.

There are more, but I can't recall them at present. I had been told the Snappy Dragon was closed, but reports of it's death have been greatly exaggerated, as it was open yesterday.

Dawgy, we hardly knew you

While I can't be one hundred percent certain, it seems almost impossible to think that Dawgy Style is still open. Two months ago, they were the scum of the bar community, ready to be taken off the top of the pool, and now, it seems that's happened.

Or at least, they haven't been open in weeks, and a lot of signage just got taken down.

On a happier U-District bar note, the beloved Kai's has improved by adding a second bar in the back room, formerly just their dining room, thus showing they recognized themselves as a fine drinking establishment. It's almost impossible to get a seat there now, for all the college students who know what they have in Kai's and plan to take advantage of it. Good work, Kai's. Good work.
