Complete Dead Bars

This is the complete list of all the bars that died in the last year after we had visited them. Or as complete as I can make it based on current information.

Bar 10, the Raindancer.
Bar 41, Hiram's.
Bar 75, the Admiral Benbow.
Bar 97, I-Spy.
Bar 129, Angel Thai.
Bar 131, the Corner Bar @ the Poor Italian Cafe.
Bar 137, Avenue One.
Bar 147, Lush Life.
Bar 250, .Ing.
Bar 290, the Flame.
Bar 291, Jack's Roadhouse.
Bar 406, Seattle Catch Seafood Bistro.
Bar 408, the Meridian.
Bar 434, the Olympic Broiler.

That's it. Fourteen bars that closed in a year, or at least the part of a year after we visited them. There were also a bunch of bars that closed before we got to them, like Arena, Falling Water, Adriatica, a bunch of others. These fourteen, though, are the casualties of the quest. Some were unremarkable. Some are already back in the same form. And some are, quite sadly, gone for good and, as they say, their like will not soon be seen again. Still, fourteen isn't a bad number over a full year.

And that's the complete list of dead bars to date.

My Favorite Bars

In no particular order, the bars which I can now call my favorites. Some I've been to just the once, so I may be wrong on so calling them, but this is the list, all the same.

Elliott's.
St. Cloud.
The Supreme Cafe in the ID.
El Gaucho.
The Cloud Room.
Bada Lounge.
Fernando's Hideaway (Tuesday only).
Serafina.
Neighbor's.
Palisades.

I had great moments at other bars, but much of that was the people there with me, or the level of booze in my system, or whatever the random factors may have been. But these are the places I really liked, the places I'll go back to to drink and hang out. These are my favorite bars. There's probably a few others, too, but they didn't spring out at me, so these are the ones that count.

The Ould Triangle (NB6)

Located in what was once the Globe Tavern on Greenwood and 100th, the Ould Triangle is a newly converted full service bar. Formerly possessed of only beer and wine, the new bar has a full assortment of alcohol, although as yet it lacks a number of specialty spirits.

The bar is a neighborhood place, nothing terribly fancy about it. An Irish pub theme is noticable, but not as yet terribly dominant. There are real wooden dart boards, with chalk boards next to them to keep score on. A pool table, a big screen TV and a good jukebox round out the bar features. The actual bar is long, seating a dozen or more.

The drinks are good, but this comes with a caveat. I know the bartender who served us, so I'm not certain that others would get the same drink. However, the entire crowd seemed pleased by their refreshers, which is a good sign. The bar also has foreign candy and crisps available for sale, things you could get in Ireland.

There is a patio in the back with a half dozen tables, which in the evening should be nice and cool, located as it is on the east side of the building. A small fountain dedicated to St. Agatha, and featuring a stone breast (one of St. Agatha's areas of concern) and several Buddha fountains promises kitschy goodness once it's complete.

It seems like a comfortable place to waste away an afternoon, but there is nothing which truly recommends it to me except that I know someone there.
