St. Clouds is named for the orphanage in Cider House Rules. In fact, it has a quote on the menu that refers to St. Clouds as a place where Orphan’s can come and feel like home. The bar area is small but very nice. There is a piano by the door and a small curved bar at the other end. St. Clouds is tiled into the bar and while I did not see it, Jason said it was quite excellent.
Breaking from the norm, we all got high end drinks here. I think this was to offset the substandard strength of the previous two places. I had a Sidecar, Jason a Mohito, and others various wacky drinks. Clara was done by this point having reached the perpetual smile and droopy eyes phase. Phil and Tony each ordered some chicken and I ordered fries. The food was excellent. Once Tony was done, the ravening hordes set upon what was left.
About halfway through our visit a woman appeared and started to sing. Makini is an incarnation of Billie Holiday. She has the look and she has the voice. Makini wanders through the crowd with a cordless mike singing to people. I am told that she does an amazing Happy Birthday Mr. President as well. I would have liked to see that.
We had a really good time there and I highly recommend it. The drinks were good, the food excellent, the staff friendly, and the singing amazing. I give St. Cloud’s 4 and a half Martini Glasses out of 5. It is the only reason to go to Madrona, near as I can tell.
