Type: Neighborhood Pub
Class: Average
From the outside you could easily miss the heavy wood door that marks the entrance to the College Inn Pub. In fact, we did. Venturing downstairs you are first greeted by a roaring fire with a small seating area and an Old World pub feel. Turning to look into the pub proper there is a small u-shaped bar of dark well used wood. Off to the left is a pool table (or two) and some dart boards. Over at the pool table were a couple of university guys and non-girlfriend university girls (I could just tell) playing pool badly. Walking up to the bar, it took a little while to get our drinks, despite the place being mostly dead (I think the bartender was clearing glasses or some such.) Looking over at that large plastic tip jar I smirked at seeing the metal bar that bolted it in place. I guess that tip theft could be a problem around here.
After getting our $3.75 drinks I quickly realized that this is a beer and nachos place and not a mixed drink type of place. My drink was weak, tasted questionably, and was in the “tall” thin rocks glass which, near as I can tell, gives you less liquid. This could be my imagination though.
We took a table in the back and proceeded to carve our moniker into the already heavily grafittied tables. It took a little goading to get Jason to do it, but he did it never the less. Btw: I have a special prize for the first person that can tell me which table we marked (you will need to be specific.) I should also note that where we were sitting, it was not comfortable.
The place is cozy and does have some chess tables in back. They have a good looking plate of nachos and the environment is ideal for a group of four to have some beers but that is about as far as I will take it. The crowd was very university age (being right next to the dorms).
I give the College Inn Pub 1 and a half Martini Glasses out of 5.
